LEXINGTON, Va. – Longwood baseball put together a solid response in the series finale against Penn State on Sunday afternoon, but the Nittany Lions (5-1) used a stretch of late runs to pull away from the Lancers (1-5) 15-7.
The Lancers took an early lead behind a solid approach at the plate, and
Kyle Miller gave the team four solid innings in his first collegiate start.
However, Penn State's offense rounded into form late, plating eight runs in the final two innings to break open what hat been a tight game through seven frames.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Paxton Kling continued his strong series with a solo homer to start the game for Penn State, but Longwood responded right away.
Jae'dan Carter equaled the score with an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the first, and the Lancers took the lead in the second.
After loadingUP NEXT the bases,
Bentley Yeatts hit into a double play, but a run scored. Tre Keels added an RBI single to make it 3-1 Longwood. Keels went 3-5 at the plate on the day and had a pair of stolen bases.
Penn State cut it to 3-2 in the third, but Miller kept it there and exited after his four innings of work. He struck out four without giving up a walk, and he only surrendered two runs on four hits.
The Nittany Lions took the lead in the fifth on a Cole Wagner RBI single that made it 4-3, but the Lancers responded with two runs in the home half of the inning.
James Nelson poked home the go-ahead run with an RBI single to center for a 5-4 lead. Nelson had a pair of base hits, as did
Myles Webb.
Penn State got on track in the sixth to take the lead for good with a trio of runs, and four-run eighth and ninth innings put the game out of reach.
Caleb Grizzard took the loss on the mound after giving up two runs in 1.1 innings of work. He struck out one against two hits and a walk.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"The vibe and energy from the guys leading up to the game was different from yesterday," said Longwood Head Coach
Ray Noe. "They were ready to compete today, and it carried over to the game.
Kyle Miller gave us a great start on the mound, and the offense finally woke up and had some ownership of executing a plan in the box."
"The resiliency of this group and the day-to-day growth that is being shown is very encouraging as we continue to progress through our non-conference schedule," Noe added.

Longwood hits the road and heads to Charlotte to take on the 49ers on Tuesday. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m., and it will air on ESPN+.
