GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Longwood men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at UNCG in non-conference action on Saturday.
The Lancers battled back from being down 2-0 and 3-2 in the dual. UNCG's Devon Moskowitz topped
Marko Mrdakat No. 5 singles, 6-3, 7-5, to lead the Spartans to victory.
Longwood received singles wins from reigning Big South Player of the Week
Timéo Puech at No. 1,
Petar Belosevicon No. 3 and
Petter Lindquist at No. 6 on the day. Puech topped Tymofiy Khrystyuk, 7-6 (4), 6-3, Belosevic beat Luke Thomson, 7-5, 7-5, and Lindquist defeated William Elmers, 6-4, 6-1.
UNCG took doubles as Elmers and John Gabelic bested Lindquist and
Alejandro Uribe, 6-2, on court three while Andrew Black and Moskowitz beat Belosevic and Mrdak, 6-1, on No. 2.
Black then defeated Uribe on court four to begin singles, making it 2-0.
Gabelic outlasted
Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva in three sets for a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win on court two to give UNCG a 3-2 lead.
The Spartans improved to 2-3 in the spring with the victory.
Longwood (1-4) returns to the court next Sunday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m., in its home opener against Howard.
