BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team opened its 2025 season with a 6-1 loss to Virginia Tech at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Friday.
Junior
Timéo Puech earned the Lancers' lone point at No. 1 singles, outlasting Ilyas Fahim, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 10-8. The win for Puech was his team-leading 10th in singles action this season.
The Hokies (1-0) won the doubles point as Diego Cueto and Eyal Shumilov topped
Ian Perl and
Gary Huang, 6-1, on No. 3, and Victor Kimpel and Scott Sculley defeated
Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva, 6-2 on court three.
Cueto defeated Huang at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1 before Julian Lozano got past Gonzalez Paiva, 6-0, 6-2, on No. 2.
Shumilov clinched the match for Virginia Tech with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lindquist, prior to the three-set win for Puech got Longwood (0-1) on the scoreboard.
Kimpel defeated
Marko Mrdak at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1, and Damian Sancilio beat Perl, 6-4, 6-4 on court six to finish the match.
Longwood returns to the court next Saturday, Jan. 25 at James Madison. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
