DAVIDSON, N.C. – The tandem of
Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva and Timeo Puech won the A doubles draw to lead the Longwond men's tennis team on the first day of the Davidson Invitational on Friday.
The pair defeated Luke Thomson and John Gabelic of UNC Greensboro 7-6 (3) in the opening round, Nico Pinzon and Luca Lovrich of Davidson, 6-4, in the semifinals and Laurenz Blickwede and Jan Montero Diaz of Queens in the final, 7-5, saving three match points.
Also in the A doubles draw was
Petar Belosevic and
Alejandro Uribe, also topped Thomson and Gabelic, 6-4, before dropping matches teams from Davidson and Gardner-Webb, respectively.
In the B draw,
Gary Huang and
Ian Perl defeated Nikhil Mukherjee and Charlie Ratliff from Davidson, 6-2, after falling to another pair from the host Wildcats and a UNCG tandem, as well.
In the C draw,
Seva Rusin and
Petter Lindquist felling in both of their matches, 6-3, to Alexandre Bergeron and Billy Mac Clement from Gardner-Webb and Aidan Herndez and Miles Kennedy of Davidson.
The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday on the Davidson Tennis Courts.
