Pado's Eighth Inning Blast Powers Lancers Past Highlanders

Blagen Pado blasts a late home run, and Guillermo Garcia Jr. shuts the door on Radford in game one

RADFORD, VA. - Longwood used a late home run from freshman Blagen Pado to steal game one on the road at Radford Thursday night. The Lancers (22-28) took game one on the road against the Highlanders (15-33) thanks to a timely hits. Guillermo Garcia Jr. threw the last 2.2 innings, shutting down Radford to help Longwood take game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Radford struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning thanks to a hit and two errors. 

The Lancers took no time to take the lead over. After three free passes, Keondre Shelton roped a one out triple in the gap to clear the basses giving the Lancers a 3-2 lead. 

Hayden Harris hit his third home run of the year in the third to tie the game at five. The seniors third of the year shifted the momentum for the Lancers moving forward. 

Longwood retook the lead in the 6th inning when Willie Havens hit a solo shot. 

After Radford tied the game in the bottom half of the seventh, Blagen Pado answered the call. His 4th home run of the season took place on the first pitch of his at bat in the 8th inning to give Longwood the lead. 

Guillermo Garcia Jr. retired the last three batters in the bottom of the ninth to give Longwood the game one win.

WHAT THEY SAID:
"It's always big to get game one. I am proud of the way our guys fought today, and kept battling all game." Head coach Chad Oxendine stated. "We need to keep playing with intensity and heart these next two games to close out the year."

NOTABLES:
Hayden Harris has now become 2nd all time in at bats in Longwood history.

UP NEXT:
Longwood and Radford will wrap up their series Friday as they are set to play a double header.
