ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Longwood fell behind early to Winthrop in Sunday's series deciding game three, and was never able to take the lead.
The Lancers (9-11, 1-2) rallied from down five and six, but the Eagles (8-10, 2-1) were able to get out of multiple jams to take the final game of the series between the two.
Keondre Shelton continued his outstanding weekend and had three hits on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Winthrop put a five spot up in the bottom of the third inning on Sunday evening, and would never look back.
The Lancers would not go away easily however, as
Tanner Thomas hit a two out double in the top half of the fourth, and
James Nelson singled two batters later to cut the lead to two at 5-3.
The fifth inning was clean both ways, but the sixth is where Winthrop struck again. They added five hits that led to four runs in the half inning for a 9-3 lead with three innings to play.
Once again, Longwood responded.
Hayden Harris and
Noah Campanelli would add back to back sac flies in the eighth to cut it to four, but that was the closest the Lancers would get.
Longwood managed to load the bases to bring the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but Brady Houston shut down the threat to clinch the series for Winthrop.
Brenton Fisher (1-2) took the loss for Longwood as Owen Sarna (3-1) earned the win.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"We shot ourselves in the foot a little bit today on the mound getting behind in counts which they ultimately took advantage of." Coach Oxendine stated. "We have to continue to grow and get better, to end up where we think this team can be at the end of the season."
NOTABLES
Kevin Warunek came on in relief and put up a scoreless outing again for a third straight appearance.
UP NEXT:
Longwood returns to action on Tuesday in Fairfax, Va., at George Mason. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
