ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Longwood women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at UNC Asheville Saturday.
The Lancers (4-7, 0-2 Big South) took three singles matches the distance, going three sets, before falling to the Bulldogs (10-3, 2-0).
Asheville took doubles as Angelina Joy Hug and Rosie Dickson topped Oriana Izarra and Feline van Eijkelenburg, 6-1, on court two and Avery Sager and Louise Booker defeated Sophia Marchetta and Nina Hederich, 6-3.
Dickson beat Karina Rizvanova, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 to open singles, followed by Hug winning 7-6 (5), 6-0 over Marchetta at No. 4.
Phoebe Mitchell won the first set against Alexis Nyborg on court three before Cyborg rallied to win the final two, 6-1 and 6-2. Booker then beat Izarra, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2.
The match ended with a pair of three-set encounters on courts one and six, respectively. Linge Steenkamp defeated van Eijkelenburg, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3, and Sager beat Kashmira Manohar, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Longwood is back in action Sunday at Presbyterian. First serve is set for 10 a.m., in Clinton, S.C.
