Campanelli's Three RBI Key Lancers Past VCU 4-0

Longwood Splits Season Series With VCU with Home Win

FARMVILLE, VA - Longwood struck first and never looked back in a 4-0 shutout of VCU on Tuesday night. The Lancers (8-8) split the season series with VCU (11-4) thanks to the strong work from the pitching staff, who only walked one batter all game.

Noah Campanelli was a stand out at the plate, driving in three of the team's four runs.

TOP LWU PERFORMERS:
Noah Campanelli: 3-4, 3 RBI
Kevin Warunek: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 1 SO, 6 BF
Willie Havens: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 R

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first two innings came and went as the pitchers were efficient.

In the third, Longwood broke through thanks to Willie Havens and Noah Campanelli. After a double to lead the inning off by Blagen Pado, Willie Havens blasted a ball over the centerfielder's head for an RBI base knock that put Longwood up 1-0. That would turn out to be the only run that mattered, thanks to excellent work by the pitching staff. However, Noah Campanelli added a two out single a few batters later to bring Havens in for a 2-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Brenton Fisher cruised through three innings while only giving up one hit. Dylan Saale added three scoreless frames of his own.

In the seventh Longwood's offense tacked on two insurance runs after three free passes. Noah Campanelli took advantage of a pitching change, jumping on the first pitch he saw with a two-run base hit.

Kevin Warunek came out of the bullpen and retired six straight, and Ried Dittner followed it with a three-up, three-down ninth inning.

WHAT THEY SAID
"Our pitching staff crushed it today only allowing one walk," said Longwood Head Coach Chad Oxendine. "Our talk after this weekend to them has been getting ahead in counts, and all four of those guys threw well tonight."

"Tonight just showed what we can be as a team when we execute and take care of what we are supposed to," Oxendine added. "When our pitching gets ahead in counts and takes care of that side, our offense is good enough that we are going to score runs. We are excited to keep building on this tomorrow with another big game against William & Mary, before opening up our conference schedule at Winthrop this weekend."

NOTABLES:
Tonight is the fourth time this season Noah Campanelli had a multi RBI game.

It is his second straight game with multiple RBI.
