FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood women's tennis team earned its second dual-match victory in the last three outings Thursday, sweeping Chowan, 7-0, at the Lancer Courts.
Feline van Eijkelenburg and
Oriana Izarra defeated Feidi Abreu-Rodriguez and Sreshta Puducheri, 6-1, on court two to begin doubles action. Chowan's top pair of Manuela Jimenez and Selene Kentish topped
Karina Rizvanova and
Phoebe Mitchell, 6-4 to knot doubles, 1-1. The Lancers, however, earned the point as Chowan did not field a third doubles team, giving
Nina Hederich and
Kashmira Manohar a win by default.
Mitchell defeated Kentish, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, Izarra beat Jimenez, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2, and van Eijkelenburg dispatched Abreu-Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-4, from the top spot.
Rizvanova beat Puducheri, 6-2, 6-, before Hederich topped Elda Getachew, 6-0, 6-0 on court five.
Alexis Broderick earned a win by default at six.
The match win moves the Lancers to 2-5 on the season while Chowan falls to 0-3 in the loss.
Longwood is back in action March 4 hosting UNCG at 2 p.m.
