RICHMOND, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team closed play at the at Richmond's River City Tennis Open Sunday, taking on James Madison in singles action.
The Lancers played four three-set matches Sunday. Esteve Agusti topped Timeo Puech, 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 before Francisco Sinopoli defeated Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva, 2-6, 7-5, 10-7, Edson Sanchez beat Petter Lindquist, 4-6, 6-1, 10-2 and Dennis Wiebe outlasted Marko Mrdak, 6-2, 5-7, 10-5.
The Dukes won the other four matches in straight sets. Zachary Fleishman defeated Petar Belosevic, 6-3, 6-4 and Aurelien Schmitt beat Alejandro Uribe, 6-0, 7-5. Harrison Lee beat Gary Huang, 6-2, 6-3 and Markus Giersiepen topped Seva Rusin, 6-3, 6-0.
The Lancers return to action Oct. 10-14 in the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Old Dominion at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, in Norfolk, Va.
