HOW IT HAPPENED:
Longwood women's tennis (6-12) got the day started on the right foot, claiming the opening doubles point.
Emma Nurgazieva and
Karina Rizvanova won a close 7-5 affair at No. 1 while
Maria Saez and
Nina Hederich took care of business at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point.
While doubles play proved successful for the women, North Carolina Central (8-8) came to play in singles. Longwood dropped the first four matches of singles play, resulting in NCCU clinching the dual meet victory. Matches at No. 5 and No. 6 were not played as a result of NCCU's win.
On the men's side, Longwood (5-10) dropped the opening doubles point to the Eagles (5-13). The team of
Guillermo Cagigas/ Timéo Puech lost a match that went to a seventh point and
Gary Huang/
Luis Reis fell at No. 3 to ensure NCCU's doubles point.
Singles play between these two teams came down to the wire. The Lancers and Eagles traded match wins through the first four, with Longwood's wins coming from
Yoav Weinberg and
Lukas Krause.
Alejandro Uribe picked up a huge win at No. 5, tying the match at 3-3. It would all come down to
Luis Reis and NCCU's Facundo Olmedo to decide the winner of today's dual. Olmedo got the best of Reis 6-3, 6-3, resulting in the Eagles' victory.
