ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Another Sunday, another pristine start on the mound for Andrew Potojecki. The righthander was excellent for seven innings at UNC Asheville, and Longwood baseball (8-18, 1-5 Big South) earned an 11-5 road win as the bats did some damage to snap a six-game losing streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Potojecki was unfazed on the mound against an Asheville (15-8, 2-4 Big South) side that came in as one of the top offenses in the Big South. The righty simply went about his business and retired the Bulldogs in order in two of the first three innings.

He refused to give up a free pass and walked none for a second straight outing, and the 7.0 innings of work tied a career high for a third straight start. He needed only 101 pitches to go seven innings. In addition, he struck out five to earn the win and improve to 2-2 on the season.

Meanwhile, the offense got to work, and players up and down the lineup contributed. Keondre Shelton proved to be the perfect tablesetter at the top of the order after going 3-4 with three runs scored and a walk.

Shelton opened the game with a single, and then promptly stole second. With one out, Eliot Dix drove him home as part of a three-hit day of his own.

The Lancers kept feeding on that momentum, and the team scored in seven of their nine innings. Drew Camp doubled home Hayden Harris in the second inning, and Shelton led off the third with a triple before scoring on Drayven Kowalski's RBI groundout one batter later for a 3-0 lead.

After Longwood extended the lead to 5-0 in the sixth, Asheville's Tony Castonguay put the only blemish on Potojecki's day with a solo homer to cut the lead to 5-1.

However, Longwood answered the run with runs on Camp's RBI single and Nelson's RBI groundout in the sixth. The lead grew to double digits in the final two innings. Luis DeLeon poked a two-run double to left before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Dylan Wilkinson. Dix capped Longwood's scoring in the ninth with a solo homer to right field.

Asheville capitalized on a Lancer error in the bottom of the ninth and brought home four unearned runs, but Andrew Melnyk came on in relief for the game ending strikeout.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Potojecki continues to compete, that's what he does," said Head Coach Chad Oxendine. "He just keeps coming at you and clawing."

"The offense executed at a high rate today," Oxendine added. "A ton of guys had good days. I just want our guys to remember this feeling and crave it more!"
