Longwood Scores 24 Unanswered Runs In Route of Saint Peter's

11 Lancers record hits in big win

Farmville, Va.- A monster day at the plate for Longwood saw them beat the Saint Peter's University Peacock's 24-1. Longwood stopped their losing streak at 10 and Saint Peter's losing streak is extended to five.

Freshman Kevin Gunn(1-1) got his second start on the mound for the Lancers, and he was dealing. Gunn struck out a Longwood season high of seven in four innings pitched, allowing just one run on one base hit and walking zero. The Dinwiddie, Virginia native struck out the side in order in his final inning of work. JR Parrish came on in relief and pitched three shutout innings. The southpaw struck out six and gave up just one hit in relief.

"Gunn pitched really well," said head coach Chad Oxendine when asked to comment on his performance. "He's a competitior and will give you everything he's got."

Saint Peter's got the scoring going in the top half of the first when Tom Buckman made it home off of a fielders choice.

Longwood would go on to score 17 in the next the following three innings. All nine Longwood batters had at least two plate appearances through the first two innings.

An incredible 15 Lancers reached base safely in one way shape or form.

Gregory Ryan led the Lancers offensively with his second home of the season, and adding four RBI's. Ryan finished the day with two hits in four at bats and three runs scored.

Jack Schnell, Eliot Dix, Corbin McCloud and Drayven Kowalski added a total of 10 hits spread amongst the four of them, and added seven RBI's.

The Lancers needed just three innings to beat their previous high of runs scored in a game with 17. Their previous high was 15 from their opening series against Maryland Eastern Shore.

"As a unit we needed this tonight." Oxendine said about snapping the losing streak. "We have had a tough stretch as of late/ It's nice to see some of the work pay off."

Longwood look to keep the winning going this weekend when Bryant comes to Farmville for a three-game, weekend series.
