Flames win 11th straight over Lancers

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty women's tennis team defeated the Longwood women's tennis team 7-0. Liberty (5-3), an ASUN Championship semi-finalist in 2021, extend their win streak against Longwood to 11.

Doubles
The Flames No.1 pairing of Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre defeated Longwood's (0-4) top duo of Emma Nurgazieva and Karina Rizvanov 6-3. The Lancers No.2 duo answered quickly, when Maria Saez and Wiktoria Czerny took down Eloise Saraty and Elsa Kirch, 6-4. A highly contested No.3 doubles matchup saw Maretha Burger and Bruna Sampaio of Liberty defeat Alexandra Hincu and Zoe Barton 7-6 (7-2) in a tiebreaker that clinched the doubles point for Liberty.

Singles
The Nos 1 and 2 singles slots for liberty were taken by Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Esther Lovato, respectively, that saw the Flames take both matches in straight sets over Nurgazieva and Saez. The highly contested No.3 singles match saw Rizvanova take the Flames Willa Rogers to a tiebreaker in both sets, but Rogers ultimately claimed the victory, 7-5, 7-5, giving the Flames the overall victory. The Nos 4 and 5 singles matches saw Saraty and Burger defeat Czerny and Hederich in straight sets respectively. Ella Kirch of Liberty got the No 6 singles slot against the Lancers Hincu, but Kirch took the victory in the second set tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), completing the sweep for Liberty.

"Although the final score doesn't look close, the girls really came to the court ready to compete today," said Director of Tennis Adam Jackson. "They played incredible doubles and stuck to our game plan and nearly pulled out that point. They are fighting hard and getting better every match."

Next
The Lancers look to bounce back next weekend in Asheville, North Carolina, when they take on UNC Asheville. This matchup will open conference play for both sides in the 2022 season.
