HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Richmond (7-3) opened the first quarter on a high note, orchestrating a 16-2 run led by ten points from Katie Hill. The Spiders shot lights out from beyond the arc in the first half, going nine for nineteen from three.
Down 19 after the first quarter, Longwood's (1-7) offense began to pick it up in the second quarter, scoring 23 points in the frame.
Janay Turner and
Adriana Shipp-Davis put up numbers in the second, combining for 17 points. After a 10-5 Longwood run to close the quarter, Richmond's Torin Rogers connected on a triple at the buzzer to put the Spiders ahead 54-33 after one half of play.
The Spiders' level of play impressed in the third, locking down on defense while scoring 35 points in the frame. Richmond's offense and three-point shooting stayed hot all the way throughout, and their lead would prove too much for the Lancers to overcome.
