Live Stats Longwood Live Stats

The First Pitch
•    Entering the weekend on an 11-game winning streak that is the program's longest since a 12-game tear during the 2016 Big South Championship season, Longwood hosts Campbell this Friday and Saturday for a three-game Big South series at Lancer Field.
•    The Lancers have won 20 consecutive Big South series dating back to the final month of the 2017 season. Longwood has won 13 of its past 14 games against Big South teams overall dating back to the end of 2019.
•    Through its first six Big South games of the season, Longwood leads the Big South in batting average (.316), runs (41), home runs (9), stolen bases (25), on base percentage (.408) and slugging percentage (.509).
•    The Lancer pitching staff has also been among the league's best in conference play, ranking second in ERA (1.88) and opponent batting average (.177).
•    Longwood ranks a Big South-best No. 75 in the latest NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) report. The Lancers are 25 spots ahead of the Big South's No. 2 team, Campbell (100), and 35th among non-Power 5 teams.
•    Longwood also received the No. 76 ranking in NCAA Strength of Schedule (SOS). The Lancers have faced four teams ranked among the NCAA's RPI top 50, including No. 9 Duke and No. 11 Liberty, and are also slated to face both No. 10 Virginia Tech and No. 15 James Madison later this season.
•    All-Big South senior ace Sydney Backstrom is the reigning Big South Pitcher of the Week for a third time this season.

Last Time Out
•    In their second straight Big South sweep, the Lancers pulled out three straight nail-biters on the road at Winthrop to extend their winning streak to 11 straight.
•    Senior ace Sydney Backstrom factored into all three victories, starting and earning wins in games one and three and throwing a nine-out save in game two. She held a 2.06 ERA for the series.
•    Junior Sydney Jacobsen also had a big weekend at the plate, hitting .417 (5-of-12) with a game-winning double in the eighth inning of game three.
•    Nia Green and Alexis Wayland hit back-to-back tying and go-ahead homers in game two.

Longwood Fan Policy
•    On March 15, 2021, Longwood announced guidelines for spectators at Lancer athletics events as part of the first phase of its plan to re-open athletics venues to spectators. The protocols apply to Longwood baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball and tennis events on campus.
•    The first phase of Longwood's athletics reopening plan limits spectators to family members of Longwood student-athletes, who must be listed on a player pass list submitted to the athletics department. Coordination of those lists and submissions for each game are handled by each team's coaching staff and in coordination with their respective student-athletes.
•    Before entry, fans must complete a COVID-19 pre-screening. Upon entry, fans must wear face covering over the nose and mouth at all times, sit in designated spaces and refrain from eating and drinking.
•    Congregating at athletics venues and surrounding facilities — including concourses, parking lots, and any tailgating site on campus — is prohibited.

By The Numbers
•    Longwood has been one of the nation's top base-stealing teams this season, ranking 11th nationally with 2.29 stolen bases per game. Longwood averages 2.68 attempts per game and has been successful on 85.3 percent of those.
•    Junior 3B Mason Basdikis is a perfect 20-for-20 stealing bases, which is the most steals without being caught by any player in the country. Basdikis has swiped 28 consecutive bases without being caught dating back to 2020.
•    Basdikis is just three steals shy of cracking Longwood's single-season top 10 for stolen bases. The record is 36, set by Jodi Wolff-Coussoulos in 2000.
•    Longwood's 11-game winning streak is the third-longest of the program's Division I era (since 2005), trailing only a 12-game tear by the 2016 Lancers and a 13-game streak by the 2015 squad.
•    During that 11-game streak, the Lancers are batting .318 with 14 home runs and 6.7 runs per game. The pitching staff boasts a 2.46 ERA and has held opposing batters to a .193 clip.
•    Catcher Alexis Wayland is on a 12-game hitting streak, the longest of her career. She is batting .357 (15-of-42) with three doubles, four homers and 15 RBI during that streak.
•    Wayland's fellow junior slugger Sydney Jacobsen is also on a 10-game hitting streak, during which she leads the team with a .385 batting average (15-of-39) and five doubles.
•    Longwood has put the leadoff batter on base in 31 of 71 innings during the 11-game winning streak, or 43.7 pecent of the time.
•    Since March 10, All-Big South ace Sydney Backstrom is 7-0 with one save and a 1.31 ERA, while Longwood has won all eight games she has started. Backstrom has thrown five complete games and fired two shutouts during that span while holding batters to a .162 batting average.
•    Following Backstrom's third Big South Pitcher of the Week citation this past Monday, Longwood has earned a Big South award for four consecutive weeks. Backstrom was also named Pitcher of the Week on March 8 and March 22, while Nia Green earned Player of the Week honors on March 15.

Quotable
"Games like these this weekend teach valuable experience that simply cannot be learned any other way, and for that we are always grateful."
 — Longwood head coach Dr. Megan Brown after Sunday's 6-4 extra-inning win that clinched a three-game Big South road sweep at Winthrop this past weekend

Series History
•    Longwood and Campbell meet for the 33rd, 34th and 35th times in series history this Friday and Saturday at Lancer Field.
•    Longwood leads the all-time series 23-9 and is 19-7 against the Fighting Camels since joining the Big South in 2013.
•    The Lancers have won four straight and six of the past seven matchups in the series. The past three of those wins have come by no more than two runs, including a hard-fought 2019 series in which Longwood won 4-2, 11-10 and 6-5.
•    The past seven games in the series have all been played at Lancer Field with Longwood going 6-1 during that stretch. Longwood's lone loss during that span was a 3-1 defeat in 10 innings on March 31, 2018.
