The Opening Tip:
  • Following Longwood's first A10 victory in over 10 years, they prepare for an NEC foe that owns a 2-1 lead in the series history.
  • The only time the Lancers have played the Red Flash under Tillett, they fell just short of victory, losing 91-88.
  • Longwood finished a program-best third in the Big South behind 12 conference wins, also a program record since joining the league.
  • Saint Francis was picked to finish third in the 2021-22 NEC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll. The Red Flash trail Mount St. Mary's, unanimously selected to win the conference, and Wagner.
  • McMakin, Akila Smith, and Tra'Dayja Smith continue averaging double digits after the first three games of the season. Adriana Shipp has now joined that list averaging 10.3 PPG after grabbing 14 points against Duquesne.
By the Numbers:
  • Four players are averaging double figures for the Lancers, with preseason All-Big South selections Kyla McMakin (19.0 ppg) and Akila Smith (14.7 ppg) leading the way. Adriana Shipp (10.3 ppg) and Tra'Dayja Smith (10.0 ppg) also are averaging double digits.
  • Akila Smith and Kyla McMakin were both selected to the All-Big South Preseason First Team, the first time Longwood has had two players selected to the conference preseason first team.
  • McMakin has started the season on a tear, pouring in more than 20 points twice in three games. Her season-high 28 against Duquesne marked the 22nd time she has had at least 20 in her Longwood career. The two-time All-Big South First Team selection became the fastest to 1,000 points in program history last season.
  • Adriana Shipp has been a microwave scorer off the bench, hitting a team-best seven three's with at least one in each game. Shipp posted back-to-back games in double digits, including a season-high 14 in Longwood's 77-76 win over Duquesne.
  • Tra'Dayja Smith has posted at least seven assists in every game of the season, including an 11-assist mark against Stony Brook that is a season high.
Quotes:

"I am so excited for our women. We worked so hard for a win, and we had to make a lot of plays down the stretch to preserve it, and they did just that. I think we needed this one early on in the season to remind yourself what type of team you are."
- Head Coach Rebecca Tillett

Series History:
  • This is the third time the two teams have met in history, first game dating back to Nov. 12, 2007.
  • The most recent meeting between the two teams was the tightest contest with the Red Flash taking victory over the Lancers 91-88.
  • The Red Flash are 12 time conference champions in the NEC, but in the 2021-22 season they were ranked third in the preseason poll.
  • Longwood continues to climb up the Big South, and also came in third in the preseason ranks after coming off a record breaking season.
