FARMVILLE, Va. – Even without their best player on the court, Longwood men's tennis had no trouble dispatching neighboring Hampden-Sydney.
 
In their 2020 home debut, the Lancers (3-2) made short work of their Farmville counterpart in a 7-0 sweep that saw Longwood win all six singles bouts in straight sets and give up no fewer than two games in any set.  
 
The Lancers engineered that runaway win against the Tigers (0-1) with all-time singles and doubles wins record holder Amadeo Blasco out of the lineup, leaning instead of a six-man rotation spearheaded by junior Guilherme Sergio. Sergio won both of his bouts on the day, sparking the victory with a 6-0 doubles victory alongside partner Marc Casasnovas at the top slot over Hampden-Sydney twins Matthew and Michael Moody.
 
After two more doubles wins, from Rosen Naydenov and Ernest Rocabert 7-5 at No. 2 and Guillermo Cagigas and Ernest Sandoval 6-0 at No. 3, Rocabert kept that momentum going with a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5 singles. That win came over Hampden-Sydney's Andrew Donelson and opened the floodgates to a quick-hitting succession of singles sweeps.
 
Sergio followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Matthew Moody at No. 1, and Casasnovas answered shortly after with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Grayson Burns at No. 4 that clinched the win. Cagigas, elevated to the No. 2 slot, poured on another win, 6-1, 6-2 over Michael Moody, and Sandoval and Naydenov wrapped it up with matching 6-1, 6-0 victories at Nos. 3 and 6.
 
The win comes in the first of back-to-back bouts this weekend for the Lancer men, who follow with a trip to Elon Saturday.
