Lancer Leadoff

  • Longwood has swatted nine home runs in April and 26 this season after hitting 23 in 2018.
  • Jacob Mitchell has hit a team-best seven home runs. Hunter Gilliam has hit four, Antwaun Tucker has hit three and De'Andre Pitts, Jawan McAllister, Jack Schnell and Nate Blakeney all have two.
  • Gilliam hit the team's first homer of the season on opening weekend against Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Mitchell had the team's first multi-homer game after knocking out two solo shots against Gardner-Webb on March 16 in the first game of a doubleheader.
  • Longwood hit a home run in four straight from 4/20-4/26 for the first time this season. The previous mark was three straight games.
  • Eleven players have hit a home run for Longwood after Cullan Wadsworth swatted his first career homer on 4/26.
  • Longwood sits among the league leaders in the Big South in stolen base efficiency. The Lancers are successful 77.5% of the time after going 55-72 on stolen base attempts this season.
  • Jawan McAllister leads the Lancers and is eighth in the Big South with 13 steals, and Antwaun Tucker are tied for ninth in the Big South with 12 stolen bases. Tucker is a perfect 12-12.
  • Tucker has only been caught stealing seven times in his Longwood career. The junior is 46-53 on steals as a Lancer.
  • Longwood's offense has racked up a mess of doubles since April 9 at George Mason. The team has cranked 35 doubles in 15 games while hitting four doubles in a game on five occasions.
  • Longwood is third in the Big South lead with 77 doubles.
  • Nate Blakeney is tied for fourth in the Big South with 13 doubles.
  • Longwood is second in the Big South with 378 strikeouts and 8.79 strikeouts per nine innings.
  • Starter Tyler Morgan leads the Big South with 11.34 strikeouts per nine innings and is second with 71 K's. Nick Fuchs is third with 10.37 K/9 and 8th with 58 strikeouts.
  • Under head coach Ryan Mau, the Lancers have consistently ranked near the top of the Big South in strikeouts. In 2018, the Lancers were third with 468 K's. In 2017, Longwood led the Big South with 511 punchouts in 2017, breaking the school's D-I record of 440.  That season, Longwood was also third in the nation with 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. The Lancers were fifth in the Big South in 2016 with 404 K's and third in 2015 with 440 K's.

Last Time Out

  • With their midweek game cancelled due to weather, the Lancers come in after losing a pitcher's duel with Navy on May 5. Longwood was shut out for the first time in 2019, 4-0. Navy scored runs in the first and second innings before both pitching staffs combined to put up seven straight scoreless innings.

Scouting Presbyterian

  • Longwood and Presbyterian are meeting for the sixth season. The two teams began playing back in 2013, and Presbyterian leads the series 8-7. Longwood won the series finale last season 9-3 after PC took the first two games of the series 5-3, 4-3 (11 innings).
  • As a team, Presbyterian holds a .261 batting average, and four players are hitting better than .300. Zacchaeus Rasberry leads the team with a .321 average and four triples while also hitting five homers and stealing 13 bases. Jimmy Marcelli has a .314 batting average and is second on the team with 12 doubles. Johnny Cook (.308 average) and Jonathan White (.307 average) are also above .300. Nick Guimbarda leads the team with six homers and 16 doubles.
  • On the mound, Jackson Dean leads the weekend starters with a 3.25 ERA while striking out 37 in 69.1 innings. Eric Miles leads the team with 63 strikeouts in 72.2 innings across 10 starts. Out of the bullpen, Johnny Cook holds a 2.57 ERA in 15 appearances (one start). Matt Norton has made 18 appearances out of the bullpen with a 5.16 ERA. Five players have a save, with Norton and Colton Springs (8.62 ERA, 15 appearances, 15.2 IP) leading the way with three apiece. Cook and Austin Paradis (7.29 ERA, 16 appearances, one start, 21.0 IP) both have two saves. Grayson Stoneking, the projected Saturday starter, also has a save.
