Lancer Leadoff
  • Longwood hosts Navy for its final non-conference series of the season. The two teams first met in 2018, with Navy taking the series 2-1. The Lancers won the series finale though, 10-2.
  • The Lancers are in the midst of a 10-game homestand, their longest of the season. They host NC Central in their final non-conference game of the season May 8 before wrapping up the home schedule with Presbyterian on May 10-12.
  • Longwood hit four doubles against VMI and has hit 30 doubles in its past 13 games. With 76 doubles on the season, Longwood is tied for first in the Big South. The Lancers have also hit a triple in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
  • Longwood's pitching staff leads the Big South with 364 strikeouts and 119 batters struck out looking while ranking second in the league with 8.88 strikeouts per nine innings.

  • Longwood has swatted nine home runs in April and 26 this season after hitting 23 in 2018.
  • Jacob Mitchell has hit a team-best seven home runs. Hunter Gilliam has hit four, Antwaun Tucker has hit three and De'Andre Pitts, Jawan McAllister, Jack Schnell and Nate Blakeney all have two.
  • Gilliam hit the team's first homer of the season on opening weekend against Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Mitchell had the team's first multi-homer game after knocking out two solo shots against Gardner-Webb on March 16 in the first game of a doubleheader.
  • Longwood hit a home run in four straight from 4/20-4/26 for the first time this season. The previous mark was three straight games.
  • Eleven players have hit a home run for Longwood after Cullan Wadsworth swatted his first career homer on 4/26.
  • Longwood sits among the league leaders in the Big South in stolen base efficiency. The Lancers are successful 77.5% of the time after going 55-71 on stolen base attempts this season (fifth in total steals and attempts).
  • Jawan McAllister leads the Lancers and is eighth in the Big South with 13 steals, and Antwaun Tucker are tied for ninth in the Big South with 12 stolen bases. Tucker is a perfect 12-12.
  • Tucker has only been caught stealing seven times in his Longwood career. The junior is 46-53 on steals as a Lancer.

  • Longwood's offense has racked up a mess of doubles since April 9 at George Mason. The team has cranked 34 doubles in 13 games while hitting four doubles in a game on four occasions.
  • Longwood is tied with Campbell for the Big South lead with 76 doubles.
  • Nate Blakeney is tied for second in the Big South with 13 doubles.
  • Longwood leads the Big South with 364 strikeouts and is second with 8.88 strikeouts per nine innings.
  • Starter Tyler Morgan leads the Big South with 71 K's and 11.34 strikeouts per nine innings, and Nick Fuchs is right behind him with 10.68 K/9 and tied for 8th with 53 strikeouts.
  • Under head coach Ryan Mau, the Lancers have consistently ranked near the top of the Big South in strikeouts. In 2018, the Lancers were third with 468 K's. In 2017, Longwood led the Big South with 511 punchouts in 2017, breaking the school's D-I record of 440.  That season, Longwood was also third in the nation with 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. Last Time Out
  • An eight-run third inning squashed a late Longwood rally in a midweek game against VMI. The Lancers rallied to cut an 11-2 lead to 11-7 behind five runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but VMI turned a double play and plated three in the ninth to seal the game.
 
Scouting Navy
  • Longwood and Navy are meeting for the second straight season after the two teams played a three-game series in Annapolis in 2018. Navy won the first two games to take the series (2-1, 7-1) but Longwood won the finale 10-2.
  • Navy has clinched the Patriot League regular season crown, and Longwood is the final opponent for the Midshipmen this season. In 2018, Navy and Army split the Patriot League regular-season championship.
  • Four players are hitting at least .300 among Navy's every game starters, and four players have hit at least 10 doubles. Zach Stevens has the best average (.341) on the team while swatting five homes, nine doubles, three triples and 26 RBI. Joe Simourian (.315), Christian Hodge (.306, 11 home runs, 48 RBI) and Zach Biggers (.304, 11 doubles, 38 RBI) are the other three. Hodge leads the way in home runs and RBI. Jacob Williamson leads the team with 13 doubles.
  • On the pitching staff, Noah Song has been one of the best, if not the best, pitchers on the nation. Song leads the country with 133 strikeouts in 73 innings while posting a 9-0 record in 11 starts against a 1.23 ERA (seventh in the nation).
  • Trent Topping and Trey Braithwaite have been the top arms out of the bullpen with 19 appearances apiece. Topping holds a 2.70 ERA, three saves and a 2-3 record in 33.1 innings while striking out 18. Braithwaite has struck out 29 in 23.2 innings to rack up nine saves and a 3.04 ERA.
