Lancer Leadoff
  • Longwood is in the midst of a nine-game road swing.
  • Due to weather, the Lancers will play seven games in eight days after the High Point series was bumped back a day. The team then heads to Radford for a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series.
  • Following the nine-game road trip, the Lancers will play 11 straight at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
  • Longwood swatted a pair of home runs at High Point to give the team 20 on the season after only hitting 23 in 2018.
  • Jack Schnell became the 10th Lancer to hit a homer in 2019 with his two-run bomb to give Longwood the lead in the eighth inning on Monday at High Point.
  • Fifth-year head coach Ryan Mau is on win away from his 100th win as a head coach, all as the head coach at Longwood.

  • Hunter Gilliam and Jacob Mitchell each have hit a team-best four home runs. Antwaun Tucker, De'Andre Pitts, Jawan McAllister and Nate Blakeney all have two.
  • Gilliam hit the team's first homer of the season on opening weekend against Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Mitchell had the team's first multi-homer game after knocking out two solo shots against Gardner-Webb on March 16 in the first game of a doubleheader.

  • Longwood sits second in the Big South with 8.80 strikeouts per nine innings and is third with 285 total strikeouts.
  • Starter Tyler Morgan leads the Big South with 65 K's and is third in strikeouts per nine (11.11). Nick Fuchs is seventh with 9.82 strikeouts per nine.
  • Under head coach Ryan Mau, the Lancers have consistently ranked near the top of the Big South in strikeouts. In 2018, the Lancers were third with 468 K's. In 2017, Longwood led the Big South with 511 punchouts in 2017, breaking the school's D-I record of 440.  That season, Longwood was also third in the nation with 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. The Lancers were fifth in the Big South in 2016 with 404 K's and third in 2015 with 440 K's. 
Last Time Out
  • Jack Schnell capped a huge five-run rally in the eighth inning for Longwood at High Point on Sunday, but the Lancers lost a heartbreaker after High Point walked them off 8-7. It was the second time in a week the Lancers lost on a walk-off. 
Scouting NC Central
  • Longwood and NC Central have met 20 times, beginning back in 2008. NC Central won last season's meeting 12-4, and a second meeting in Durham was rained out.
  • NC Central has won three of its past five, with all five games being decided by three runs or less. The Eagles split a doubleheader with North Carolina A&T on Sunday with each team winning a game 6-4. NC Central lost 7-5 at Duke after taking down Davidson twice last weekend 10-9 and 9-6.
  • NC Central hits .255 as a team, but three players are hitting better than .300 with Corey Joyce leading the way behind a .353 average. Joyce also has a team-best four homers and 39 runs scored and is one of seven players with at least 10 RBI. He has posted 21 walks while only striking out 22 times. Caleb Coyle has hit three homers to go with a .320 batting average, and Carter Williams has a .319 average and three homers to go with a team-best 11 doubles. Trey Maslin leads the team with 29 RBI, and Vinny Bailey has 23 RBI and three homers with a.270 average.
  • Ryan Miller leads the team with 53 innings in 11 appearances on the mound (eight starts). He has a team-best 55 strikeouts to only eight walks. Austin Vernon has been both a starter (five starts) and pitched out of the bullpen (11 relief appearances) while tallying 44 strikeouts in 29.1 innings. Ryan Decker leads the team with 20 appearances, all in relief, to post a team-low 2.82 ERA in 22.1 innings. He has struck out 10 to six walks.
