GREENSBORO, N.C.—The Longwood women's tennis team extended their win streak to three straight, picking up their second win in 48 hours with a 4-3 defeat of NOrth Carolina A&T Saturday at the Aggie Tennis Courts.
The win was Longwood's second of the week after the Lancers (8-2) toppled Norfolk State 4-0 Thursday on the road.
Continuing Longwood's most historic start in Division I era, Saturday's win over the Aggies (0-11) was secured by junior
Jamie Breunig, who clinched it with a No. 3 singles victory to send the Lancers home with an 8-2 start of the season.

The singles win was the fourth straight for Breunig, who improved to 8-2 in her junior season with all of those wins coming at Longwood's top three singles slots.

"I think it was good to get another win before entering conference play." Breunig said, "I think moving into tomorrow's match we just have to play our game and not let our emotions dictate our play."
Breunig's win punctuated a victory that began with the Lancers winning the doubles point for the second straight match. Starting off that win was the pairing of
Anika Tylek and
Marija Venta, who started the day with a win over Renata Ruiz and Marlene Estenssoro 6-0. Following that win,
Emma Nurgazieva and
Crystal Nzewi clinched the doubles point by defeating their No. 3 counterparts Brenna Bryant and Kaya Ellis 6-4.
Tylek carried that momentum into singles play, as the Ottawa, Canada, native notched her second victory of the day 6-1, 6-0 over Bryant 6-1, 6-0. Nurgazieva followed with a 6-0, 6-2 takedown of Estenssoro that improved her unbeaten freshman singles record to 9-0.

The Aggies fired back after No.6 Ellis defeated Nzewi 6-2, 6-2 to cut Longwood's lead to 3-1. However, Breunig came through in the clutch once again for the Lancers, defeating Ruiz 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot for the clincher. That was Breunig's second clincher in two days.

Finishing out play for the day was No.1 Venta who lost against Ramirez 6-0, 6-3 followed by No. 2 Martinez over Almiron 6-4, 7-6.

The Lancers' non-conference win gives them a boost heading into Big South conference play Sunday in Rock Hill, S.C. against rival Winthrop. First serve tips off at 11 a.m.
