The Opening Tip
  • Longwood is back on the road this week, seeking their first win away from Willett Hall as the Lancers matchup against the Spartans of Norfolk State.
  • The Lancers lead the Big South Conference in blocks with 28 on the season, averaging 4.67 blocks per game, one block higher per game than the next best Big South team.
  • Efficiency on offense has the Lancers ranking third in field goal percentage (.394) and fourth in field goals made (141) in the Big South Conference.
  • Freshman Kyla McMakin gave Longwood their third straight weekly honor from the Big South Conference. McMakin earned Freshman of the Week for the Big South, after her incredible 26-point performance against the Pirates of East Carolina. McMakin joins teammates senior Dayna Rouse and freshman Anne-Hamilton LeRoy as Lancers with weekly honors this season.
Last Time Out
  • Longwood welcomed the Pirates of East Carolina to Willett Hall, where the Lancers suffered a 64-61 loss to the Pirates, marking their first home loss of the season after starting the year 2-0 on Jerome Kersey Court.
  • Kyla McMakin sparked the Lancer offense after halftime, scoring 17 of her career-best 26-points, including eight straight points to begin the third quarter. McMakin added to her performance with two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.
  • Dayna Rouse extended her streak of double-doubles to three straight games. Rouse scored 12-points on 4-of-5 shooting, adding four points at the free-throw line, with a career-high 13-rebounds.

By The Numbers
  •  Longwood's offense ranks sixth in the Big South Conference, averaging 64.8 points per game, compared to last year the Lancers are scoring an average of 5.4 points more per game.
  • Preseason All-Big South First Team selection Dayna Rouse is showing she deserved the honor leading the Big South in double-doubles (3), free-throws made (33), and free throws attempted (40). Rouse's three double-doubles rank her 34th in all of Division I, while her 33 free-throws rank 38th.
  • The Lancer defense leads the Big South in rim-protecting with 28 blocks on the season, averaging a Big South best 4.7 blocks per game. Dayna Rouse and Sophomore Akila Smith are tied for the team-high with nine blocks through six games.
  • Junior transfer Tra'Dayja Smith has made an immediate impact on the Lancer offense ranking 13th in Division I averaging 6.2 assists per game, with a total of 37 assists on the season, putting her 36th in the nation for assists as well.
  • Longwood has two of the Big South's top performers, with Kyla McMakin and Dayna Rouse scoring 14.8 points per game, ranking both women in the top five of the conference.
  • The Lancer offense has started slow but heats up in the final three-quarters of play. In Longwood's previous three contests, the Lancers have outscored their opponents 178-146 after the first ten minutes of action. During the first quarter, Longwood has been outscored 73-45, resulting in a 1-2 record over the three-game stretch.
Series History
  • The Lancers will travel to Norfolk State for the second straight season as Longwood hopes to break a four-game skid against the Spartans and claim their third victory of the series.
  • Longwood fell to the Spartans in their previous matchup as Norfolk State saw four Spartans reach double-figure point totals.
  • A completely new look Lancers team will take the court against the Spartans, as only two of eight Lancers who scored in the previous matchup are still members of the program.
