FARMVILLE, Va. – High Point guard Kat Harris scored a game-high 13 points and led the high-powered Panthers to a 75-39 win over the Longwood women's basketball team Tuesday night inside Willett Hall.
Harris led three Panthers in double figures with her 13 points to go along with three assists in 23 minutes off the bench. She was joined in double figures by reigning Big South Player of the Year Emma Bockrath who scored 12 points along with her five rebounds, five steals and a block in 25 minutes, while Kennedy Currie finished 5-of-7 from the floor for her 10 points in leading the Panther post to a 44-18 advantage in the paint. High Point had to overcome yet another big night on the glass from senior
Autumn Childress, who brought down 13 rebounds along with 10 points to produce her Big South-leading eighth double-double performance on the season.
Micaela Ellis had nine points, along with two assists, while
Que King had six points, all in the first half.
High Point (14-8, 8-3 Big South), who entered the game with the Big South's top scoring offense (67.6 PPG), three-point shooting percentage (.365) and the Big South's third best mark in field goal percentage (.410), earned the season sweep over the Lancers (3-19, 1-10 Big South).
The Panthers' high-powered offense finished the night .542 (32-of-59) from the floor while shooting above the .500 mark in all four quarters of play. In addition to dominating the paint, High Point turned their defense into offense, scoring 27 points off 23 Longwood turnovers while coming up with 18 steals – matching the most by a Longwood opponent this season.
"High Point had lost two in a row and they were very aggressive from the outset," said Longwood head coach
Bill Reinson. "They played extremely well and we weren't prepared to match their intensity. The last time we played them, we really competed and it was a battle. Unfortunately, we haven't competed as consistently over the past three games. We need to find a way to get that edge back."
Childress secured her eighth double-double of the season, finishing the game with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Tuesday's game marked the ninth game of the season with 10-plus boards, despite missing seven games due to sickness and injury.
Coming off a 17-point, seven rebound performance Saturday against Charleston Southern, Childress has scored in double figures in four of her last five games played to increase her season scoring average to 10.2 points per game.
Childress' classmate Ellis added nine points and two assists to move to within seven assists shy of moving past Ann Callaham for eighth place all-time on Longwood's all-time career assist charts. With seven games to play in the 2017-18 regular season, Ellis sits 31 shy of Longwood's Division I record.
Longwood looks to complete the season sweep over Presbyterian Saturday, Feb. 10, as that game will mark the first of two straight on the road. The Lancers and Blue Hose are set for a 2 p.m. opening tip in Clinton, S.C.
