Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

White Leads Surging Radford Past Longwood

Micaela Ellis Secured Third Straight Game in Double Figures With 14 Points

RADFORD, Va. – A career-high 26 points from Radford forward Janayla White and four scorers in double figures led the Highlanders to an 81-39 win over the Longwood women's basketball team Tuesday night inside the Dedmon Center.

White scored 14 of her 26 points in the opening half and grabbed seven rebounds en route to her second 20-point game in a three-game span while adding 11 rebounds to collect her seventh double-double of the season. That performance led Radford (19-7, 12-3 Big South) to their seventh consecutive win and 10th in its last 11 games.

"Radford is playing extremely well right now," said Longwood head coach Bill Reinson. "They present a difficult matchup for us. With that said, I was disappointed in our fight after the first quarter. Radford turned up the defensive pressure to begin the second quarter and we didn't respond. We lost our focus on defense and lost focus on offense."

The Highlanders were forced to outlast the third consecutive game in double figures from Micaela Ellis, who finished with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting in 37 minutes to lead Longwood (5-21, 3-12 Big South). Ellis has averaged 15.3 points per game over her last three games, the best three-game scoring streak of her career.

White made a perfect 12-of-12 field goals to secure her second career 20-point game and lead the Highlanders in scoring for the fifth time on the season. She was joined in double figures by Jayda Worthy, who added 14 points, nine rebounds. Destinee Walker chipped in with 15 points while Khiana Johnson contributed 13 to the cause.

Coming off a 21-point game Saturday afternoon, Childress finished one point shy of collecting her second straight game in double figures and fifth in her last six contests.
After Radford opened the game on a 6-0 run, Longwood battled back with a 9-3 run of its own to tie the game 9-9 before three points from White in the final minute pushed the lead to 12-9 in favor of the Highlanders.

"The next couple games don't get any easier, but I've seen this team respond before and I believe we'll be ready for Asheville on Saturday," Reinson said. "

Longwood looks to bounce back Saturday, Feb. 24, as the Lancers welcome two-time reigning Big South champion UNC Asheville to Willett Hall. The tip for that game is set for 12 p.m. and will be followed by the Longwood men at 3 p.m.
