CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Longwood women's tennis sophomore co-ace
Marija Venta continued to make victims of her counterparts as she collected her fourth win in six singles matches this fall, taking out Radford's Drousile Dzeubou in a full-set comeback Sunday afternoon.
In a potential Big South preview this spring, Venta fell behind early to the Highlanders' ace 2-6 before keeping the match alive with a 7-6(4) second set before finishing off Dzeubou with a 7-5 third set.
Sunday's win sealed the sophomore's second straight 2-1 weekend in singles play, both times winning her final two matches after dropping Friday's decisions. Venta sits at the top of the Lancer leaderboard with a 4-2 fall record after picking up five singles victories in the spring.
Radford got the best of the Lancers, however, as Natalie Sayer, Lotti Meszaros, Tyler Blalock and Jeanine Acierto teamed up to take straight-set victories over the rest of the Longwood lineup.
Venta and the Lancers get nearly a month off as they prepare for the ITA Atlantic Regionals starting Oct. 13 at Virginia Tech. The yearly fall tournament ends the schedule for the Lancers before they hit the court again in the spring on their quest for back-to-back Big South Championship quarterfinals appearances in program history.
