CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One week after making their season debut, the Longwood women's tennis team was in action yet again at the Queens City Scramble Friday afternoon.
Playing their second fall tournament in as many weeks, it was the veterans
Jamie Breunig and
Marija Venta who came the closest to pulling out victories for the Lancers against a stout Wofford team that's coming off back-to-back 11-win seasons.
The sophomore duo battled in doubles play against Wofford's Cassidy Hicks/Lauren Reid but fell 6-4 in Flight A action. The loss came on the heels of their back draw wins last weekend at Elon in which they finished 1-1 as a tandem, as well as a 4-2 singles record.
In her first official singles action as a Lancer, freshman
Tanja Skalda fought valiantly but fell to Wofford's Jenna Vroman 6-3, 6-1.
Second round action from Queens University begins Saturday morning with doubles action as the Lancers will face off against host school Queens from the Division II level.
