Leading Off
•Longwood enters the weekend after falling in a midweek matchup at No. 11 UVA.
•The Lancers are in the middle of a stretch of four straight weekends playing the current top four teams in conference.
•Due to rain the series, originally scheduled for a three-day weekend set, will begin with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. Friday and conclude with a single game Saturday. The start time for Saturday's game will be determined Friday night.
Cody Wager picked up his second Big South Pitcher of the Week honors on April 17. Wager won his first of the season on March 20.
•On 4/13 against Presbyterian Wager went the distance, spinning a complete game and picking up the win in Longwood's 2-1 walk-off victory. Wager struck out a career-high 13 batters and retired the final 11 hitters of the game. Wager did not allow an earned run in the win.
•On 3/18 against Charleston Southern, Wager came within four outs of a no-hitter, striking out 10 batters in 8.1 innings of three-hit, shutout ball.

Last Time Out
•Against No. 11 UVA the Lancers were held to two runs on two hits. The Cavaliers scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Lancers got a run back in the third inning before Virginia scored six runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game.
•Longwood is 1-9 against in-state competition this season.
•Longwood has been held to two runs or less in four straight games.

By The Numbers
•After picking up just four strikeouts  at No. 11 UVA, Longwood is now second in the conference in punchouts with 334. Longwood is eighth in the country with 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings as a team.
Zach Potojecki struck out a career-best 13 batters at Savannah State on 3/3, one shy of the school record for a single game. Potojecki struck out 10 at Gardner-Webb on 4/9.
Cody Wager struck out 10 batters at UNC Wilmington 3/11 and was magical again with 10 strikeouts in 8.1 shutout innings vs. Charleston Southern 3/18, taking a no-hitter two outs into the eighth. Wager then struck out a career-high 13 batters in a complete game win against Presbyterian 4/13.
•Wager leads the Big South with 56 strikeouts and Potojecki is second with 55. Potojecki is 10th in the country with 12.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
•Junior outfielder Sammy Miller has been great in the lead-off role, reaching base at a rate of .405 (17-for-42) when leading off an inning. Miller is second in the conference, 33th in the NCAA, with 15 stolen bases.
•Longwood junior left-hander Michael Catlin has put together a solid campaign, serving as the go-to bullpen arm for the Lancers and has been one of the toughest pitchers to face in the league.
•Catlin leads the Big South with a league-low 1.96 ERA, has a batting average against of .200 which is second-lowest in the conference, and has allowed league-lows 26 hits, 12 runs, and no home runs, in 36.2 innings of work across 17 appearances.
•Longwood has placed around the top 30 in several statistical categories in the NCAA.

Scouting Winthrop
•Longwood took two of three games in at Winthrop last season, winning 6-1 and 12-3 before Winthrop avoided a sweep with a 4-2 victory in game three. 
•In the second game of the series Longwood scored seven runs in the third inning, with 10 consecutive hits in the frame. Longwood ripped 22 hits in that third inning. Every starter picked up a hit, seven players had multiple hits, and seven players drove in a run in the win.
•Winthrop enters this weekend tied with Presbyterian for first place in the Big South, winners of five straight with a pair of midweek wins wrapped around a sweep of Liberty, which entered the series in Lynchburg first place in the Big South.
•During this five-game winning streak WInthrop has won by multiple runs in each game. The Eagles have scored more than 11 runs in each of the last three games entering the series.
•Winthrop was led this past week by Big South Player of the Week Anthony Paulsen. The senior went 9-for-18 at the plate this week with seven runs scored and five RBI. Paulsen is hitting .336 on the year with a team-high five RBI.
•Mitch Spires leads the squad with a .346 batting average.
•Hunter Lipscomb has a team-high 32 RBI.
•Nate Pawelczyk leads the team with a 2.12 ERA and 5-1 record and a .207 BAA.
