Leading Off
  • Due to rough weather expected in the Spartanburg, S.C., weather area, Tuesday's game at USC Upstate has been moved up to noon from its previously scheduled time of 4 p.m.
  • Longwood enters the week fresh off its first sweep of the season, taking all three games at Savannah State.
  • Longwood continues its eight-game, 12-day, three-state Spring Break road trip with a two-game stay in Spartanburg, S.C., with a pair of games at USC Upstate and Wofford Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to UNC Wilmington to round out the trip. USC Upstate played Wofford on Sunday with USC Upstate winning, 14-10.
  • Longwood is led in hitting by Michael Osinski, who is batting .333 and leads the Big South in hits (17), RBI (15), and is in the top five in runs (12), and total bases (27).
  • Justin Mitchell is tied for the team lead with a .333 average and is third in the conference in on-base percentage (.500) and second in walks (13).

Last Time Out
  • Longwood swept Savannah State over the weekend, scoring 27 runs over the three games.
  • The Lancers took advantage of seven Savannah State errors while committing just two themselves. Longwood was outhit in the series 37-33. Longwood outlasted Savannah State 15-13 Sunday.

By The Numbers
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Zach Potojecki made his first career Friday start at Savannah State and responded with his best career start, going 6.2 innings of shutout ball and finished one shy of the school record with 13 strikeouts.
  • On the season senior designated hitter Alex Lewis is hitting .289 (13-for-45) with a team high six extra-base hits, including his first two career triples. After hitting .250 as a freshman and .196 as a sophomore, his .369 average as a junior and .289 average this year has put the senior's career average at .287 entering the week.
  • Junior outfielder Sammy Miller has been great in the lead-off role, reaching base at a rate of .412 (7-for-17) when beginning an inning. Miller leads the team with two steals.
  • Junior shortstop Michael Osinski leads the team in nearly every offensive category through nine games, hitting a team-high .333 with a conference-best 15 RBI. Osinski has a team-best two home runs.
  • Longwood leads the Big South in both runs scored (76) and RBI (69). As a team the Lancers have hit .287 (35-for-122) with runners in scoring position with three Lancers hitting better than .300 with RISP and with five or more hits.
  • Justin Mitchell is hitting .500 (6-for-12) with RISP, while Michael Osinski is hitting .389 (7-for-18), and Antwaun Tucker is hitting .313 (5-for-16).

Scouting USC Upstate
  • Longwood meets USC Upstate for the first time since 1992 when the teams meet on Wednesday. The Spartans were 14-10 winners against Wednesday's opponent, Wofford.
  • USC Upstate is 1-1 against Big South schools this season, winning 10-9 against UNC Asheville and losing 4-3 at Charleston Southern.
  • USC Upstate has four starters hitting better than .300 on the season, led by a .396 average by junior infielder Charlie Carpenter, who has a team-high three home runs.
  • J.J. Imko is second on the team with a .389 average, leading the team with nine extra-base hits and 15 RBI. Brendan Brundage is hitting .353 and Devon Ortiz is a .309 hitter.
Scouting Wofford
  • Longwood meets plays Wofford for the 18th time in the series, the first since 2014, when Longwood concludes its stay in Spartanburg, S.C., Wednesday.
  • Wofford is led in hitting by Brett Hash, who is hitting .319 with a team-high 10 RBI and two home runs. Hash, a senior infielder, has a hit in all 11 games for Wofford this season and went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and runs scored in the loss at USC Upstate.
  • Alex Malsch is second on the team with a .297 batting average and has four extra-base hits.
  • Starter Adam Scott has been the most effective pitcher for Wofford with 31 strikeouts to four walks on the season, but has posted a 6.89 ERA in 15.2 innings in three appearances.
