LYNCHBURG, Va. - Longwood men's tennis continues to roll through competition in their fall season as Raisei Sakai,
Amadeo Blasco and
Valentin Popescu combined for three Lancer wins Friday in the team's first action of the ITA Atlantic Regionals from Liberty University.
The No. 9 seeded tandem of Sakai and Blasco garnered the first win of the day as they handled their Georgetown counterparts 8-3 in doubles action, the first of two wins for Sakai on the day.
In singles action, the freshman Aichi, Japan, native handled his Morgan State opponent, Oguzhan Ceylan, in a dominant 6-1, 6-4 straight-set match while fellow freshman Popescu battled for a full-set 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3 takedown of Duquesne's Christopher Corraro.
All three will be back in action Saturday morning at Liberty as Blasco and Sakai take on Rogelio Gonzalez and Connor Merrill from La Salle at 9 a.m. before singles action gets underway at 11 a.m.
After a first-round bye, Blasco will take on Georgetown's Peter Beaty in the Round of 64 at 12:30 p.m. while Sakai tangles with No. 17 seed Alberto Caceres at 10:45 a.m. and Popescu has a date with another No. 17 seed Chritsopher Fletcher from George Washington at 10:45 a.m.
