FARMVILLE, Va. – Third-place Coastal Carolina won the Big South regular season women's tennis finale against eighth-place Longwood by forfeit Friday afternoon at Lancer Courts. The match was originally scheduled for March 14 but was postponed to Friday due to inclement weather.
Big South policies require that home teams provide two ITA-certified officials for a home tennis match. Due to a scheduling issue, Longwood (9-12, 2-7 Big South) was unable to provide two officials and was forced to forfeit the match.
The loss concludes the conference slate for Longwood, which earned eighth place in the standings for their highest finish in four years as a member of the Big South. Longwood will play three non-conference matches against Chowan, Norfolk State and Hampton before opening the 2016 Big South Women's Tennis Championship on April 15 in Lynchburg, Va.
