Second Top-25 Opponent Awaits in Virginia

Lancers Travel to Charlottesville for 14th Meeting

Leading Off
• Longwood opens a 12-game road swing at Virginia on Tuesday. The Lancers and Cavaliers are meeting for the second-straight season after a five-year hiatus in the series.
• Virginia leads the all-time series 11-2 over the Lancers and has claimed the last seven meetings in the series.
• Longwood last defeated Virginia back in 1984 with a 2-1 victory on April 9.
C.J. Roth exploded back onto the scene with a 7-for-13 week including 3 RBI over the weekend.
• The second baseman produced the game-winning RBI on his sixth-inning double in Saturday's finale with Liberty.
• Virginia enters the matchup having taken two-of-three games from No. 9 Miami over the weekend.
 
Meet Virginia
• Longwood faces its second ranked foe of the season in No. 19/20 Virginia. The Cavaliers most recently took two-of-three from No. 9 Miami in Charlottesville.
• At 9-12 in ACC play, the Cavaliers sit in a tie for third in the Coastal Division.
• At the plate, the 'Hoos are led by Matt Thaiss. The sophomore catcher is hitting .319 on the season with a team high seven home runs. Thaiss has driven in 32 runs on the year, second-best on the team.
• Virginia will start Derek Casey, a freshman right-hander from Mechanicsville. Casey holds a 3-1 record on the season in five starts.
The rookie has tossed 29 2/3 innings in nine appearances and maintains a 3.34 ERA.
• Other key players for the Cavaliers include Kenny Towns, Daniel Pinero and Pavin Smith. Towns and Pinero both hit above .300 on the season with Towns leading the team with 40 RBI on the season.
• As a team, the Cavaliers are one of the most prolific strikeout teams in the country as Virginia pitchers fan nearly nine batters per nine innings, a mark that is 18th in the nation.
