ROCK HILL, S.C. – Dan Elston of the Longwood men's tennis team won his third straight match and five of his last six matches, but the squad fell to Winthrop, 6-1, Monday afternoon at Winthrop Memorial Tennis Center.

Longwood falls to 0-10 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 8-4.

The Eagles opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. The duo of Dylan Comerford and Peter Nagovnak defeated Elston and Steed Johnson, 8-2, on court one before Steven Patrick and Tremayne Mitchell earned an 8-0 victory over Alfonso Castellano and Florian Uffer at the No. 2 position.

The Eagles ended the doubles portion with a win at the third spot in the order, as Michael Chen and Joshua Ryan earned an 8-3 victory against Bharani Sankar and Rosen Ilchev.

In singles, Elston captured his second Big South victory in as many days from atop the lineup with a thrilling 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 win over Winthrop's Mitchell.

However, that was the lone bright spot for the Lancers, as the Eagles won the remaining five matches to earn the team win. At the No. 2 spot, Patrick defeated Castellano, 6-2, 6-4, while Johnson was able to take Chen to a decisive third set tiebreak before falling, 6-2, 6-7, 1-0.

At the No. 4 spot in the order, Sankar dropped a hard-fought match, 6-1, 6-4, against Nagovnak, while Manser fell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0, against Franzanti at the fifth spot. The Eagle's Ryan defeated Ilchev, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 6 spot to round out the scores.

Longwood returns to Farmville and will continue its play of four matches in four days. The Lancers will host UT Dallas Tuesday afternoon on Race Courts at 6:30 p.m., before hosting Hampden-Sydney Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
