FARMVILLE, Va. –
Charleston Southern sophomore guard Shauntavia Dobson hit a career-high eight three-pointers, including the go-ahead basket in the final minute, to help the Buccaneers escape with a 63-54 win over Longwood Tuesday night inside Willet Hall.

Dobson, who scored a career-high 29 points for the Buccaneers off the bench, drained a left-corner three-point shot with 40 seconds to go in regulation to put Charleston Southern (7-5, 2-1 BSC) ahead 54-53 for the remainder of the game. The performance for the sophomore came in historic fashion, as she tied for third on the Charleston Southern all-time record book with her eight triples.

"This was a game where we let one player get hot," said Longwood head coach Bill Reinson. "Dobson shot it very well. We left her open early and she made her first few shots. After that, it took us a while to slow her down."

The go-ahead bucket from Dobson, who had scored in double figures just three games this season coming into Tuesday, out-shadowed a Longwood second-half comeback where the squad overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to gain a lead midway through the fourth quarter. A 5-0 run sparked by five unanswered points from Daeisha Brown, who finished the night with nine points, six rebounds and three steals gave the Lancers their largest lead of the night at 52-48 lead at the 6:57 mark of the fourth quarter off back-to-back steals which led to layups.

Charleston Southern quickly responded with a 5-0 run of its own, as Dobson nailed her seventh three-pointer of the evening and Alyssa Mann hit a jumper in the lane to put the Buccaneers ahead, 53-52 entering the final four minutes.

"I thought we did an excellent job of defending them in the second half, but we didn't make any shots in the fourth quarter," Reinson said.

After Charleston Southern regained the lead, Dobson and Mann combined to go 5-of-6 from the charity stripe in the final 27 seconds to ice the game and lead the Buccaneers to the nine point victory.

Dobson and Mann – who came into Tuesday's game leading the Big South with an average of 17.3 points per game and finished with 16 – combined for 45 of Charleston Southern's 63 points. In addition, Mann chipped in with five assists in 40 minutes of playing time.

Senior Kyndal Skersick led the Lancers in scoring for the eighth time this season with her 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in 33 minutes of game action. It marked the eighth time in the last 10 games the senior has finished in double figures.

Meanwhile, freshman Kemari Jones finished one rebound shy of collecting her second double-double in the past four games, as she finished with 10 points, nine boards, while blocking a shot and collecting a steal. The 6-0, Melbourne, Fla., native has finished six or more rebounds in four of her last five games and has come on in that stretch to average 7.6 points after averaging 3.4 over the first five games of her career.

Longwood looks to rebound, as it begins a stretch where it will play four of its next six games away from Farmville. The Lancers play Winthrop Saturday, Jan. 2 beginning at 1 p.m.
