Longwood Welcomes High Point In Final Home Series

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University will welcome fellow North Division opponent High Point University this weekend, May 9-11, for a three-game Big South Conference baseball series at Bolding Stadium in Farmville.  The Lancers enter their final league home series with a record of 20-28 overall, 8-13 in the Big South, and are scheduled to host the Panthers (25-19, 12-9 Big South) on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.  The Sunday series finale will be video-streamed live on the Big South Network, and is also Senior Day (see below).
 
Senior Day
Longwood will recognize fourth-year team members Scott Burkett, Matt Dickason, Alex Owens, Cory Ramsey and Ryan Schubert during a special pre-game ceremony on Sunday, May 11 at approximately 12:40-12:45 p.m.
 
Series History
Longwood and High Point have met 16 times previously and the Lancers lead the all-time series, 11-5.  Longwood won three of four games played between the two schools last season, including two of three in North Carolina during the regular season, before an 11-3 victory to eliminate the Panthers from the 2013 Big South Baseball Championship.
 
Pitching Rotations
Longwood will have a pitching rotation that features junior RHP Aaron Myers (7-3, 1.68 ERA, 78K) on Friday, junior LHP Brandon Vick (4-6, 3.55 ERA, 55K) on Saturday and sophomore RHP Travis Burnette (2-5, 4.56 ERA, 21K) on Sunday.  High Point is expected to counter with junior RHP John McGillicuddy (4-2, 2.69 ERA, 37K) on Friday, freshman RHP Cas Silber (3-0, 1.76 ERA, 34K) on Saturday and freshman RHP Andre Scrubb (2-5, 5.69 ERA, 42K) on Sunday.
 
A Look At Longwood Offensively
Longwood is batting .261 through 48 games while averaging 4.4 runs with 25 home runs, 11 triples, 80 doubles, 198 RBI and 45 stolen bases.  Senior captain Matt Dickason (.328, 1 HR, 3 3B, 14 2B, 18 RBI, 26 R, 5 SB) has led the Lancers all season, followed by junior Brandon Delk (.291, 8 HR, 2 3B, 5 2B, 32 RBI, 26 R, 1 SB), along with sophomores Kyri Washington (.280, 7 HR, 1 3B, 17 2B, 32 RBI, 30 R, 10 SB) and C.J. Roth (.279, 3 3B, 5 2B, 12 RBI, 21 R, 2 SB).  Dickason is the team leader with 19 multi-hit games this season, and is tied with a team season-best 12-game hitting streak (17-47, .362).  Delk is the team leader with eight multi-RBI games this season.  Roth has a current 12-game hitting streak (17-45, .378) entering this weekend's action.
 
A Look At Longwood Pitching
Longwood has a team ERA of 4.18 over 424.1 innings with 303 strikeouts and 174 walks while the opposition has a .260 batting average.  In addition to Myers, Vick and Burnette, freshman RHP Mitchell Kuebbing (1-3, 3.80 ERA, 31K, three saves), sophomore RHP Allen Ellis (1-1, 4.93 ERA, 25K), senior RHP Scott Burkett (2-2, 4.50 ERA, 10K, one save) and freshman RHP Devin Gould (1-2, 4.55 ERA, 35K, one save) have been solid this season.  Myers has allowed only one earned run in his last four appearances (3-0, 0.38 ERA, 15K, one save).
 
NCAA Statistics (through May 4)
Longwood ranked 50th in Division I home runs, 93rd in doubles and 94th in triples.  Aaron Myers ranked 27th in games started, 36th in strikeouts, 41st in complete games, 44th in ERA, 54th in WHIP, 55th in victories and 76th in hits allowed per nine innings.  Brandon Vick also ranked 27th in games started and 41st in complete games.  Kyri Washington ranked 27th in doubles, 82nd in home runs and 94th in total bases.  Freshman Brandon Harvell ranked 43rd in sacrifice bunts.  Brandon Delk ranked 54th in home runs.  Sophomore Colton Konvicka ranked 58th in stolen bases.  Matt Dickason ranked 84th in hits. 
 
Big South Statistics (through May 7)
Aaron Myers leads the Big South in innings pitched, is second in strikeouts, tied for second in wins, starts and complete games, and third in ERA and opponent batting average.  Brandon Vick is tied for second in starts and complete games, and tied for fourth in innings pitched.  Kyri Washington is tied for second in doubles, fourth in total bases, tied for fourth in home runs and ninth in slugging percentage.  Brandon Delk is third in home runs.  Colton Konvicka is third in stolen bases.  Matt Dickason is fifth in hits, sixth in total bases and seventh in doubles.  Senior captain Alex Owens is tied for fifth in doubles.  Travis Burnette is tied for seventh in saves.
 
Big South-Only
Matt Dickason is hitting .330 (29-88) in 21 league games with one home run, one triple, seven doubles, 12 RBI, 12 runs and seven walks.  Scott Burkett is hitting .324 (22-68) in 19 league games with one home run, five doubles, five RBI, seven runs and nine walks.   Kyri Washington is hitting .294 (25-85) in 21 league games with three home runs, nine doubles, 11 RBI, 14 runs and six walks.  Freshman Alex Lewis hitting .277 (18-65) in 18 league games with six RBI, four runs and two walks.  Aaron Myers (3-3, one save) has a 1.69 ERA in nine league games with seven starts, pitching 53.1 innings with 45 strikeouts.
 
Perfect Near The End
Longwood is a perfect 18-0 this season when leading after seven innings, 19-1 when leading after eight innings and 14-2 when leading after six innings.

Longwood will remain at home to host James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association on Tuesday, May 13 at 4 p.m. in its final home game of the campaign, before playing its final conference series on the road at South Division member Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina on May 15-17.
