VMI scored single runs in each of the first three innings to lead 3-0.  In the first, Brandon Angus (0-2) was hit by a pitch and advanced to third with two stolen bases.  Three walks later, the latter to Walter (1-3, RBI), forced Angus across the plate with the first run.  In the second, Tanner Doffelmeyer (3-4) singled and later scored from third when Eric Mayers (0-2, RBI) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  In the third, Walter singled and later crossed the plate courtesy of another bases loaded walk, this time to Will Malbon (0-3, RBI).

Longwood avoided the shutout with a run in the eighth inning for the final two-run margin.  Roth (2-3) singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, on to third via a fly ball off the bat of freshman Brandon Harvell/Yorktown (0-3) and scored on a ground ball RBI from sophomore Colton Konvicka/Richmond (0-3, RBI).  Senior captain Matt Dickason/Chesapeake (1-4) and junior Brandon Delk/Newport News (1-4) collected the other two hits for the Lancers.
