"I am really disappointed that we did not compete at a level this program is accustomed to," said head coach
Kathy Riley. "All of us have to do some soul searching and figure out what kind of team we want to be."
Longwood registered one hit in the first inning off the bat of Baltzell, but the Blue Hose took an early 4-0 advantage in their first trip to the plate on a double down the right field line, in addition to a RBI single to right and a RBI groundout. In the top of the second, Adams led off for the Lancers with a bunt for a base hit, however, she was stranded at third. PC added two more runs in the home half of the inning, thanks to three hits and a Longwood miscue, extending its lead to 6-0.
Lifsey logged the Lancers' third single of the day in the squad's next chance at the dish, but she was not able to advance past first. The first two Presbyterian batters were hit by pitches in the bottom of the third and Jill McLean followed with a triple to the wall in right center to give PC an eight-run margin. Neither side was able to make any noise in the fourth, although junior
Chelsea Sciacca/Whittier, Calif. reached on a fielding error for Longwood. Lifsey registered her second hit of the day in the top of the fifth, but the visitors were unable to capitalize, as Presbyterian sealed the 8-0, mercy-rule decision.
