Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Mary Barondess/Centreville and junior Sara Jacobson/Gainesville logged two points apiece, as the Longwood University women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-3 decision at in-state opponent William and Mary (2-7) on Tuesday afternoon in Williamsburg. Barondess recorded two of the Lancers' three goals, while Jacobson tied a career-high with two assists in the outing. Taelor Salmon paced the Tribe with five goals and two assists for seven points. Longwood (2-6) will return to action on Friday, March 28 when the squad welcomes Kennesaw State University to the Athletics Complex in Farmville for a 6 p.m. tilt.

William and Mary got on the board first, but sophomore Katie McHugh/Burke quickly responded for Longwood, converting on a good pass from Jacobson less than three minutes later to knot the score at 1-1 with 19:42 remaining in the half. The Tribe took a three-goal advantage over the next five minutes before senior Lauren Prasnicki/Lexington dished a strong pass to Barondess for the shot on goal, cutting the difference to just two at 4-2 with 11:50 to play in the first. The Lancers were unable to come any closer, however, as the home squad found the back of the next six more times to take a 10-2 margin into the break.

Coming out of halftime, William and Mary pulled ahead, 15-2, thanks to five unanswered goals in 12 minutes. Barondess connected with Jacobson for the Lancers' final goal of the day before the Tribe added one more of its own. Both sides were unable to find the net in the last 12 minutes of play, allowing William and Mary to seal the 16-3 decision.

Junior goalkeeper Christian Acker/Moorestown, N.J. registered nine saves in net for the Lancers. Tuesday's contest marked the eighth meeting ever between Longwood and William and Mary in the sport of women's lacrosse. The Tribe holds a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series.
