FARMVILLE, Va. –The Longwood University men's tennis team faced a 7-0 defeat against Big South Conference opponent Winthrop University (8-7, 1-0) on Friday afternoon in Farmville. The Lancers (1-12, 0-4) will return to action on Sunday, March 23 when they host league and in-state rival Liberty University at 1 p.m.
In singles play, junior
Daniel Elston/ St. Austell, Cornwall, England was bested 6-4, 7-6(6) at No. 1, while senior
Edward Becker/Sydney, Australia fell at the No. 2 spot, 7-6(7), 6-0. Freshman
Warren Bryan/Greensboro, N.C. played at the No. 3 spot, dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision. Sophomore classmates
Justin Higgs/Nassau, Bahamas (6-0, 6-3), and
Bharani Sankar/Glen Allen (6-1, 6-0) fell in the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Sophomore
James Fudge/Kaarst, Germany rounded out singles action at No. 6, dropping a 6-1, 6-4 decision.
In doubles play, the Lancers faced setbacks in all three of their matches. Elston and Becker were defeated, 8-6, at No. 1. Bryan and Fudge, and Sankar and Higgs also fell, 8-2 and 8-6, respectively.
