William and Mary took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on two hits while aided by two walks and an error at shortstop, as well.  Michael Katz (2-4, 2 RBI) provided the big hit with a two-run double to score Nick Thompson (0-3) and Ryan Lindemuth (0-2), and Katz crossed the plate on the fielding miscue.

Longwood got two runs back in the third inning to pull within 3-2 after a lead-off double by sophomore C.J. Roth/Yorktown (1-1) was followed by an opposite field two-run home run to right field by Washington (2-5, 3 RBI) with two outs.  The Lancers scored two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 advantage when Burkett (3-4, 2 RBI) reached on an infield single with one out and scored unearned on a two-out, RBI double by freshman Alex Lewis/Burke (2-5), as the ball was misplayed in the outfield, and Lewis scored on a run-scoring single by McCafferty (3-4, 2 RBI).

Longwood extended its lead to 6-3 with two runs in the fifth inning after Washington led-off with a solo homer to left center field for his second of the game and fourth of the season, followed by a triple from Delk (3-5, RBI), who later scored on a sacrifice fly by Burkett.  The Lancers made it 7-3 with another run in the sixth inning as Lewis single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Brandon Harvell/Yorktown (0-0) and scored on another RBI single by McCafferty.

William and Mary also scored a run in the sixth to pull within 7-4 after a single from Josh Smith (3-4, 2 RBI) and a run-scoring double by Tim Hoehn (1-4, RBI).
