Longwood Welcomes Radford to Farmville on Saturday

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women's basketball team will host Big South Conference and in-state rival Radford University on Saturday, February 22 beginning at 2 p.m. The game, which will be played as part of a doubleheader with the Longwood men's team, will be streamed live via the Big South Network.

Looking at Longwood
Longwood is currently 7-20 overall this season, including 4-14 in Big South Conference action, after dropping a decision at home earlier this week. The Lancers faced a 63-35 setback against Winthrop in Willett Hall on February 20. Through 27 games, sophomore Daeisha Brown/Richmond paces the team with 15.5 points per game. Classmate Raven Williams/Richmond has added to the offensive effort with 11.2 points per game, while sophomore Kyndal Skersick/Orlando, Fla. and redshirt-senior Heather Tobeck/La Porte, Texas average 9.3 and 7.1 points, respectively. Sophomore Khalilah Ali/Suffolk leads the Lancers on the glass with 6.0 rebounds per game, while Brown adds 5.0. As a team, Longwood is shooting 33.8% (537-1588) from the floor, including 25.6% (145-566) from beyond the arc, and 67.0% (314-469) from the foul line.

Scouting Radford
The Highlanders are 7-19 so far in 2013-14 and 5-12 in Big South play. After picking up wins against Gardner-Webb (55-53) and  UNC Asheville (64-52), Radford fell, 57-40, on the road at Winthrop in its most recent outing on Feb. 15. RU, under the direction of first-year head coach Mike McGuire, is led by Ayana Avery with 14.4 points per game. Aisha Foy and Breshara Gordon add 8.8 and 8.6 points, respectively, while Rachael Ross totals 7.6. Ross also leads the team on the glass with 5.8 rebounds per game. As a whole, the Highlanders are shooting 39.0% (556-1427) from the field, 34.3% (116-338) from three-point territory, and 61.9% (223-360) from the foul line.

Series History
Saturday's contest will mark the 31st meeting between Longwood and Radford in the sport of women's basketball. Radford currently holds an 18-12 advantage in the all-time series, including a 57-51 victory on its home court earlier this year on January 16. In that outing, the Lancers pulled within one possession of the lead with less than a minute remaining, but were unable to come any closer. Ali notched her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Longwood in the decision.
