Longwood Plays at Gardner-Webb and Asheville This Week

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Longwood University women's basketball team will play its final road games of the regular season in North Carolina this week. The squad will first travel to Gardner-Webb University on Thursday, February 13 for a 7 p.m. tilt in Boiling Springs, N.C. before visiting UNC Asheville in Asheville, N.C. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on the Big South Network.

Looking at Longwood
Longwood is currently 7-17 overall this season, including 4-11 in Big South Conference action, after splitting a pair of league games at home last week. The Lancers snapped a six-game skid with a 71-59 victory against Charleston Southern on Feb. 6 before falling, 66-61, against Presbyterian on Feb. 8. Through 24 games, sophomore Daeisha Brown/Richmond paces the team with 15.9 points per game. Classmate Raven Williams/Richmond has added to the offensive effort with 11.8 points per game, while sophomore Kyndal Skersick/Orlando, Fla. and redshirt-senior Heather Tobeck/La Porte, Texas average 9.4 and 7.4 points, respectively. Sophomore Khalilah Ali/Suffolk leads the Lancers on the glass with 6.3 rebounds per game, while Brown adds 5.1. As a team, Longwood is shooting 34.3% (481-1403) from the floor, including 27.1% (136-502) from beyond the arc, and 67.7% (275-406) from the foul line.

Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 13-10 so far in 2013-14 and 8-6 in Big South play. Gardner-Webb has dropped its two most recent decisions, falling at Winthrop, 57-52, on Feb. 6 and at Radford, 55-53, on Feb. 8. GWU, under the direction of 10th-year head coach Rick Reeves, is led by Catrina Green with the double-double average of 14.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Jasmine Dale adds 10.9 points per game, while Jessica Heilig totals 10.1. As a whole, the Runnin' Bulldogs are shooting 38.0% (516-1357) from the field, including 27.2% (91-334) from three-point territory, and 63.2% (367-581) from the foul line.

Scouting Asheville
The Bulldogs own a 9-14 overall record in 2013-14, including a 6-8 mark in Big South games. UNCA is in the midst of a three-game skid after dropping a 62-55 decision at Winthrop in its lone contest last week on Feb. 8. The squad will host Radford on Feb. 13 prior to welcoming Longwood on Feb. 15. Asheville, under the direction of Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick in her second year, is led by Paige Love with 10.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. In addition, Shonese Jones and Brittany Gwyn contribute 9.6 and 9.1 points per game, respectively. Asheville is currently shooting 35.2 (473-1343) from the floor, 26.7% (124-464) on three-point opportunities and 75.4% (338-448) from the foul line.

Series History
Thursday's contest will mark the eighth meeting between Longwood and Gardner-Webb in the sport of women's basketball, while Saturday will be the seventh time that the Lancers have faced off against Asheville. Longwood leads the all-time series against GWU, 5-2, including a 59-57 comeback victory in their most recent meeting on January 11 in Willett Hall. The Lancers also hold a slight, 4-2 edge all-time against the Bulldogs, despite falling, 69-65, when they last faced off on Jan. 9.
