The Opening Tip
 • Longwood kicks off its final nonconfer­ence stretch of the season, as the Lanc­ers travel to Virginia Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
• The contest against the Cavaliers marks the third ACC opponent that Longwood has played this season, as the Lancers have played at Wake Forest and at Virgin­ia Tech.
• Eight of Longwood's first 10 games are on the road this season. The Lancers played their first home game against UNCG on Monday, Nov. 24, before hosting UNC Asheville on Dec. 14. The Lancers will return to Willett Hall on Monday, Dec. 22 against George Mason.
• The Lancers are averaging 15.4 points per game from three-point range this season, which ranks third in the confer­ence.
 
Last Time Out
 • Longwood was defeated Sunday after­noon by UNC Asheville, 60-44, inside Wil­lett Hall. The game marked just the sec­ond home contest for the Lancers this season.
• UNC Asheville's Tianna Knuckles scored all of her 14 points in the second half, as the Bulldogs outscored Longwood, 37-19, in the second 20 minutes
• The Bulldogs held Longwood to four treys, which tied the season-low in three-point field goals made by the Lancers. Asheville held Longwood to 1-of-12 from beyond the arc in the second half.
• Raven Williams scored a game-high 16 points to notch her fourth game this sea­son in double figures. She also recorded three assists; marking the fifth time in the past six games that Williams has posted three or more assists.
 
By The Numbers
• Longwood has been successful shoot­ing the three this season, as the Lanc­ers have made at least four three-point field goals in each game they've played. Longwood hit a season-high eight treys in the contest at Richmond.
• The Lancers will play a total of five schools from a power five conference this season — Wake Forest, Florida, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Clemson. The five games against the power five is the most of any team in the Big South this season.
• Longwood has three players on its roster averaging at least one three-point field goal per contest this sea­son. Raven Williams leads the Lancers and ranks eighth in the Big South with 10 treys this season and Kyndal Sker­sick is 12th in the league with seven three-pointers in seven games games. In addition, freshman Micaela Ellis has shown the ability to shoot from long range, as she is also averaging 1.0 three's per game.
• This season marks the 99th season for Longwood women's basketball, as the Lancers have a record of 566-542 since 1970. The Lancers officially made the jump to Division I for the 2007-08 season and are 61-122 in those seven seasons. Prior to making the jump to Division I, Longwood made four NCAA Division II Tournaments (1995, '96, '97, '03).
• Longwood named three players team captains — senior Rianna Frazer, junior Deborah Headen and junior Raven Wil­liams.
 
Scouting Virginia
• Virginia comes into Sunday's contest with a 6-2 mark on the season. The Cavaliers are 4-0 this season when playing inside John Paul Jones Arena.
• UVa will be playing its first game in 10 days, as the Cavaliers defeated Dele­ware St., 100-62, in their most recent contest on Dec. 6. Virginia had five players score in double figures, as Mikay­la Venson led the way with 22 points. Breyanna Mason added 16 points, while Faith Randolph recorded 15 points in the win.
• Virginia has four players averaging in double figures this season. Randolph leads UVa in the scoring column with 18.5 PPG, while Sarah Imovbioh (14.5 PPG), Mikayla Venson (11.5 PPG), Brey­ana Mason (10.0 PPG) also average in double figures. Imovbioh leads Virginia in rebounding, averaging 11.9 boards per contest
• Virginia will be the highest-ranked op­ponent Longwood has faced this sea­son, according to the latest RPI rank­ings. Virginia is listed at No. 85 in the RPI rankings as of Dec. 15.
