Longwood Welcomes High Point to Willett Hall

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women's basketball team will host Big South Conference opponent High Point University on Saturday, January 25 beginning at 2 p.m. The contest will mark this season's #LancerStrong game for the women's basketball program, as the stands will be packed with fellow Longwood student-athletes. There will be a special pre-game ceremony to recognize former Longwood women's basketball head coach Shirley Duncan. Saturday's game will be streamed live via the Big South Network.

Looking at Longwood
Longwood is currently 6-13 overall this season, including 3-7 in Big South Conference action. The Lancers return home after dropping three consecutive road decisions. In the team's most recent decision, Longwood fell, 74-41, at conference and in-state rival Liberty on Jan. 23. Through 19 games, sophomore Daeisha Brown/Richmond paces the team with 16.2 points per game. Classmate Raven Williams/Richmond has added to the offensive effort with 10.7 points per game, while redshirt-senior Heather Tobeck/La Porte, Texas and sophomore Kyndal Skersick/Orlando, Fla. total 8.1 and 7.9 points, respectively. Sophomore Khalilah Ali/Suffolk leads the Lancers on the boards with 6.5 rebounds per game, while Brown adds 4.9. As a team, Longwood is shooting 34.3% (381-1112) from the floor, including 26.4% (111-420) from beyond the arc, and 67.4% (194-288) from the foul line.

Scouting High Point
The Panthers are 11-8 so far in 2013-14 and 7-3 in Big South play. High Point earned a 73-62 home win against Radford earlier this week on Jan. 23 to bring their current win streak to three games. HPU, under the direction of second-year head coach DeUnna Hendrix, is led by Kaylah Keys with 16.7 points per game. Tayler Tremblay and Stacia Robertson add 13.4 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Robertson paces the squad on the glass with 7.9 rebounds per game, as well. As a whole, the Panthers are shooting 40.4% (492-1219) from the field, including 29.8% (104-349) from three-point territory, and 68.7% (257-374) from the foul line.

Series History
Saturday's contest will mark the 29th meeting between Longwood and High Point in the sport of women's basketball. High Point holds a 17-11 advantage in the all-time series. The teams have already squared off once this season, as the Panthers secured a 68-54 victory on December 6 in High Point, N.C.
