Brandon Vick/Newport News gained the mound win with the first 6.0 innings for the Lancers (24-24, 12-11 Big South), while sophomore
Aaron Myers/Newport News earned his 10th save with the final 2.0 scoreless innings in the middle game of the weekend's three-game series. Robby Swab had two hits and two RBI, and Ryan Hagan had a three-run home run for the Blue Hose (23-28, 9-11 Big South), while Bud Jeter took the pitching loss. Longwood, looking for the series sweep, and Presbyterian will play the series finale on Sunday, May 12 at 1 p.m. in South Carolina.
Presbyterian got on the scoreboard early with five runs in the second inning to lead 5-0. Nathan Chong (2-5) singled, followed by a one-out walk to Jacob Midkiff (1-4), before Hagan (1-5, 3 RBI) hit his three-run home run to left field. Jay Lizanich (2-5) added a double and moved to third on a fly ball before a two-out intentional walk to Brad Zebedis (2-4, RBI), who stole second base ahead of a two-run single by Swab (2-4, 2 RBI).
Longwood answered with seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-5 advantage. Dickason (3-4, RBI) got it started with a walk ahead of a single by junior captain
Scott Burkett/Williamsburg (1-4) and scored on a run-scoring double to right center field from Owens (3-4, RBI). Freshman
Kyri Washington/Prospect (1-3, 3 RBI) added an RBI single to plate Burkett, and Owens crossed the plate via a sacrifice fly by senior

Conner Hall/Mechanicsville (0-4) was safe at first courtesy a wild pitch on a strikeout, followed by a two-run double down the right field line from Konvicka (3-5, 2 RBI) that scored both Delk and Hall. Dickason completed the seven-run outburst with a run-scoring single that plated Konvicka.
Presbyterian added two more runs in the sixth inning to tie it at 7-7. Aaron Preston (2-5) doubled with one out and scored on an RBI triple to right center field by Zebedis, who later scored on a two-out RBI single by Brandon Paul (1-5, RBI).
Longwood went back in front with a run in the seventh inning to lead 8-7, as Konvicka singled to get it started and stole second base before Burkett was hit by a pitch with one out, followed by an infield single from Owens. Washington provided a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Konvicka with what proved to be the game-winner. The Lancers added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Dickason reached on an infield single and later crossed the plate via another sacrifice fly to center from Washington.
Vick (5-5) started and pitched the first 6.0 innings for Longwood, allowing 13 hits and seven runs, all earned, with three walks and one strikeout. Myers (10) tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings to earn his 10th save for the Lancers, yielding no hits with one walk and two strikeouts. The 10 saves tie the season record and Myers now has 15 career saves to rank second all-time behind Mark Montgomery (16), who also had 10 saves in 2011.
Jeter (5-6) started and pitched the first 6.1 innings for Presbyterian, allowing 10 hits and eight runs, all earned, with two walks and four strikeouts.
