Travis Burnette/Lynchburg gained the pitching win with the final 2.0 shutout innings, as Longwood took two of the three games during weekend series. Dane McDermott and Willie Medina each had three hits for the host Panthers (15-17, 3-6 Big South), while Malcolm Clapsaddle took the pitching loss. Longwood will play again on the road at Virginia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Blacksburg.
Longwood took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when junior captain
Alex Owens/Purcellville (0-3) drew a two-out walk followed by Dickason (3-5, 2 RBI) reaching base via a fielding error. Burkett (2-5, 2 RBI) promptly followed with a two-run single up the middle.
High Point answered with a run in the first after Medina (3-6) led-off with a single and later scored on a grounder by Spencer Angelis (2-5, RBI). The Panthers scored another run in the fifth inning to tie it at 2-2 when Scott Glover (1-3, RBI) was hit-by-a-pitch and later crossed the plate on a two-out RBI single from Devin Bujnovsky (2-5, RBI).
Longwood responded with a run in the sixth to lead 3-2, as freshman
Colton Konvicka/Richmond (1-5) led-off with a double down the left field line and scored on a one-out RBI single by Dickason. The Lancers made it 4-2 with another run in the eighth inning after freshman
C.J. Roth/Yorktown (0-3) was hit-by-a-pitch while leading off and later scored unearned on a ground ball from Dickason.
High Point answered with a run in the eighth, too, making it 4-3 following a run-scoring single by Glover with two outs that plated Angelis, who had also singled. The Panthers forced extra innings when they added a tying run in the ninth inning, getting a lead-off double from Medina who scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Spano (1-5, RBI).
Longwood scored the go-ahead runs in the 11th that proved to be the difference in the game and secure the important series win. Dickason singled with one out and scored unearned after advancing to third on a single by Burkett that included an error in left field. Freshman

Aaron Myers/Newport News, who had tossed the final 1.0 scoreless inning for the Lancers on Saturday night, started the contest and went the first 9.0 innings while allowing 13 hits and four runs, all earned, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Clapsaddle (1-3) pitched 4.2 innings of middle relief in defeat for High Point, yielding only two hits and three runs, one earned, with no walks and five strikeouts.
