Brad Collins had two hits and an RBI for the visiting Bulldogs (20-17-1, 7-6 Big South), while Matt Fraudin took the hard-luck mound loss with a complete-game effort. Longwood and Gardner-Webb will play the second game of the series on Saturday, April 20 at 4 p.m. at Bolding Stadium in Farmville.
Gardner-Webb got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning to lead 1-0 after Scott Coleman (0-3) reached on a bad-hop fielding error at shortstop, advanced to third on a single by John Harris (1-4) and scored on an RBI double to left center field from Collins (2-4, RBI). Harris was out at the plate while trying to score on the play on an excellent relay throw from freshman
C.J. Roth/Yorktown to Burkett, who did a good job at blocking the plate.
Longwood tied it at 1-1 with a run in the sixth inning courtesy of the two-out, solo home run to left field by Burkett (2-4, RBI) -- his second this season. The Lancers scored what proved to be the winning run in the seventh inning when sophomore
Brandon Delk/Newport News (1-3) led off the at-bat with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman
Travis Burnette/Lynchburg (1-2), advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on the clutch two-out, game-winning RBI single by Konvicka (2-3, RBI). Konvicka also made a diving catch of a sinking line drive to shallow center field to end a threat in the seventh inning.
Morgan (4-4) started and pitched 7.0 solid inning for Longwood, scattering seven hits and one run, unearned, with one walk and two strikeouts. Myers (8) pitched the final 2.0 shutout innings for the Lancers, yielding no hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Fraudin (5-4) pitched the complete-game 8.0 innings for Gardner-Webb, allowing 10 hits and two runs, both earned, with two walks and five strikeouts.

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University will recognize and honor its veteran baseball head coach, Charles Buddy Bolding, with 'Bolding Day' on Saturday, April 20, as the Lancers play Big South Conference opponent Gardner-Webb University at 4 p.m. A special pre-game ceremony, featuring introductions and presentations, is scheduled to take place at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m., following a pre-game reception scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Many of the 300-plus who have played for Coach Bolding are expected to return for the event that is free and open to the public.
