VMI scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie it at 3-3, getting a one-out single from Matt Winn (2-5), followed by a double from Brandon Angus (2-4) to put runners at second and third.  Shifflett followed with a two-run single through the left side off the glove of a diving shortstop to plate both Michael Donovan, who was pinch-running for Winn, and Angus to send the game on to the bottom half of the inning.

Longwood won it during the last at bat as Washington (1-4) led off with a double to left center field, and scored from second base when freshman Travis Burnette/Lynchburg (2-4) bunted toward third to advance Washington, but the third baseman threw wildly to first for an error, allowing Washington to easily round third and cross the plate for the game-winning run.
