The start of the game was delayed for one hour due to rain falling in Farmville for most of the morning. When it did begin, Longwood took an early 1-0 in the first inning as Roth (2-5) reached on a bunt single toward second base, moved on to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Travis Biddix/Richmond (1-4) and scored with one out on an RBI grounder to shortstop by Burkett (1-3, RBI).
Asheville scored two runs in the third to lead 2-1, getting an RBI single from Graham (3-4, 2 RBI) to score Phillip Treadway (1-4), who had singled and stole second, while Graham later crossed the plate on a grounder by Creighton (3-5, 3 RBI). The Bulldogs added another run in the fifth to lead 3-1 when Creighton doubled to right field, moved to third on a fly ball out and scored unearned with two outs via a passed ball.
Asheville also added a run in the sixth for a 4-1 advantage after Woods (3-5, 2 RBI) reached on an error when the first baseman dropped a throw from third, moved on to second via a throwing error by Ream on a failed pickoff attempt and scored with two outs on an RBI single by Graham. The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the seventh to lead 6-1 when Todd Joyner (2-6, RBI) reached on a one-out single and scored on a two-out RBI double by Tommy Houmard (2-5, 2 RBI), who also scored on an RBI single by Woods.
Asheville plated two runs in the eighth to lead 8-1, getting a run-producing grounder from Joyner to score Creighton, who had led-off with an infield single, and an RBI single from Woods to score Eli Miller (0-4), who had walked and stole second base. The Bulldogs scored three final runs in the ninth for the final 10-run margin of victory. Graham and Kyle Towles (2-5) singled and doubled, respectively, and both scored on a two-run double by Creighton, who later crossed the plate on an RBI single from Houmard.
Ream (2-2) started for Longwood and pitched the first 5.2 innings, yielding six hits and four runs, two earned, with four walks and three strikeouts. The Lancers used three other pitchers in the contest.
Clarke (1-0) started for Asheville and pitched the first 6.0 innings, scattering seven hits and one earned run with two walks and six strikeouts.
