Nicole Parker/Richmond at No. 6 against the Bulldogs (7-5, 1-1 Big South). Longwood will play again at non-conference and in-state opponent James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association on Saturday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. in Harrisonburg.
Against Asheville in the match-opening doubles competition, seniors
Marta Pinyol/Barcelona, Spain and Shulman fell at No. 1, 7-8 (6). Allgurin and junior
Sarah Moomau/Winchester fell at No. 2, 3-8. Senior
Hannah Hill/Portsmouth and Parker fell at No. 3, 0-8. In singles, Pinyol fell at No. 1, 6-4, 5-7, 4-6. Allgurin won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0. Shulman won at No. 3, 6-0, 1-6, 6-4. Moomau fell at No. 4, 3-6, 7-5, 3-6. Hill fell at No. 5, 0-6, 1-6. Parker won at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4.
“It's hard to put words to how we fought out there today,” said second-year head coach Jacob Gustafsson. “We just had another very close loss against a quality Big South opponent. These girls fight extremely well for each other and they deserve much better results than what they are currently getting in these close matches. Four times we have now been one hero away from big wins. It will come, and these girls will keep on fighting and improving until that happens.”
